The Beano & Dandy

The Beano is Britain's longest-running comic. It was introduced in 1938. Dennis The Menace And Gnasher is probably the most famous strip, but Minnie the Minx (with the same black and red-striped jersey, signalling danger), The Bash Street Kids, Lord Snooty and His Pals, and Roger the Dodger are also popular.

The Dandy (of which Desperate Dan is the most famous son) is a sister-title to the The Beano in publisher DC Thomson's stable, and preceded it by a few months - the first issue was in December 1938, and the final one in 2012.
