Desperate Dan, the urban cowboy with amazing strength and the appetite of a horse. What a creation! The Dandy's own superhero! And a favourite to generations of readers of The Dandy. Dan made his appearance in the first issue of The Dandy – the sister comic to The Beano – in1937. The character was created by Dudley D Watkins, originally as an outlaw or ‘desperado’ (hence his name), but in time he turned into a goodie.
