I’ve mined these letters from American comics from the 1950s.

I love the boldness – and of course screenprinting is the perfect medium to express those bold colours.

By the way, a brief bit of research revealed to me that Valentine's Day has been associated with lovers for longer than I’d thought: apparently the first surviving romantic reference to St Valentine's Day was made by Geoffrey Chaucer in the late 14th century. By the 18th century it had evolved into an occasion for lovers to give each other gifts such as sweets, cards and poems.

These are all original screenprints. An original print is a work of art printed by hand, from a plate, block, stone, or stencil (which is the case here - screenprints are made using screen stencils) that has been created by the artist for the purpose of producing the image.
