News — Dennis the menace print

Just printed: Gnasher's in a good mood.  Dennis the Menace's companion, a Beano favourite in his own right, first appeared in the comic's issue 1362, back in the rebellious 1960s. Gnasher is a black-haired Abyssinian Wire-Haired Tripe Hound exclaims "gnash!" instead of barking. The print is a two-ink design: here are photos showing the red ink first (the lightest ink is always put down first), then the black ink goes down (using a sheet of acetate to register it accurately) and the finished article.  Finally, four prints dry on my wall-mounted drying rack.  As usual, the paper I've used is lovely...

Great combinations of screenprint: these three comic characters can hang together because of the coloured bars they all stand on.

Dennis the Menace, icon of The Beano and hero to thousands of children, makes for some dramatic screenprints. Printer John Patrick Reynolds focuses on the character and the prints he has made using the  images, all approve by Dundee publisher DC Thomson.
