Spitfire on yellow and black

£ 280.00£ 350.00

This is the Supermarine Spitfire. Can there have ever been a more beautiful aeroplane?

The Spitfire is a design classic and a symbol of British indomitability. The icon of British military history is so beautiful and yet so deadly.

And this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force.

I’m delighted that my colour-band format adapts so well to showing off the silhouette of the fighter.
The yellow and black colour scheme is reminiscent of the colouring of wasps and bees – which also pack a sting.

More Spitfires were produced than any other British Second World War aircraft – although the Hurricane was more numerous in the Battle OF Britain. Various versions were produced, but the Spitfire was the only British fighter to be in continuous production throughout the war.

It was designed by RJ Mitchell and first flew in 1936. More than 20,000 were produced in total until 1948 and was till in service (for the Irish Air Service) in 1961. As of 2015, there were apparently about 50 Spitfires still airworthy.

Large size: 76cms x 56cms. Only available in this format.
