Biffo the Bear watches telly

£48.00

Biffo - the Beano's anthropomorphic bear - sits in a brilliant comfy chair, wears dungaree shorts and watches an ancient TV set. I love it all.

Hand-pulled screen print, printed one colour at a time with water-based inks.

The edition is limited to a maximum of just 200 prints.

The print is officially approved by the publisher, Britain's top comic publisher, DC Thomson of Dundee.

The paper is beautiful fine art paper, 300 gsm, mould-made, 100% cotton, milled at St Cuthbert's Mill in Somerset. It is acid-free and buffered with calcium carbonate (pH 7–9) for archival longevity. The paper has hand-torn and/or deckled (feathered) edges.

Signed, numbered and dated in pencil by me, the printer, John Patrick Reynolds.

Format options:
Standard size: 26cm x 19cm
Medium size: 48cm x 38cm

The Beano and The Dandy are Britain's iconic sister comic magazines, both published by DC Thomson.

The Dandy was launched on December 4, 1937 (making it The Beano’s older sibling).

Famous characters include Desperate Dan (the world's strongest cowboy who loves cow pies) and Korky The Cat. The print weekly edition ended on December 4, 2012 (its 75th anniversary). It continues today through yearly specials, gift books, and annuals.

The Beano was launched on July 30, 1938  which makes it the world's longest-running weekly comic magazine. Its famous characters include Dennis & Gnasher, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids, and Bananaman. It is still published weekly.

Incidentally, the word beano is apparently short for "bean-feast" and means a feast, a celebration and a good time.
