Preparing a screen for printing

Posted by John Reynolds on

Here I'm creating the screen for printing - I'm going to print designs featuring Oor Wullie, Thelwell's drawings of a young girl on a pony, and some images from The Victor comic.

The first pic shows the colour separations on tracing paper. These have been placed on the screen (which has been coated with light-sensitive emulsion) and covered with a thick pane of non-filtering glass to keep it flat.

Then the image is exposed to UV light, from a bank of halogen lamps for a few minutes.

Then the screen is washed down for the "development" phase –  the areas of screen which haven't been hardened by the UV rays are washed off ... and the screen will then be dried, ready for use.
